The Least You Can Do for Your Sense of Style

Select a style, find someone to imitate and buy a first date outfit that reflects your new style

Buy grooming aids you don’t currently have (teeth whitening strips, tea tree oil soap, etc.)

See the dentist

See a doctor for a complete physical

Get new glasses or contacts

Get a real haircut by a stylist

Buy decent underwear

Honor Student

Purge your closet of all the clothes that don’t fit in with your new style

Find replacement clothing

Get your back waxed

Up on Friday: I start a new section about how to get noticed by being interesting.

  1. I think your examples here are way too specific and also out of date. I had to look up John Corbett, I had no idea who he is; now that I know he played Chris on Northern Exposure, I have some idea what you mean, but that was 15 years ago, and I see he currently has a role on United States of Tara but I have no idea whether that character dresses (or behaves) anything like his earlier one. Likewise with Christian Slater: I didn't have to look him up, but, aren't you referencing just his one role in Heathers, a movie that's over 20 years old? I suppose if you consider your target audience to be geeks around my age, i.e. late 30s / early 40s, then those may still have some meaning, but I still don't feel they're particularly apt.

  2. Yeah, I thought about that but resisted saying how I was aging myself... I wasn't actually thinking of Corbett in Northern Exposure (which I've never seen) but his role in Sex in the City (or even in the movie Serendipity).

Can anyone help out on more current examples?
